The Galerie de l’UQAM is developing a project to assemble a curio cabinet called La Petite Collection. The collection will comprise artists’ multiples produced for the most part in limited editions. First proposed in 2009, the project stems from a scientific and museological approach designed to expand and enhance the educational function of collections. A contemporary curio cabinet devoted primarily to signed and numbered objects will serve as a corpus for investigating new modes of exhibition, promote openness to objects of different statuses and, thus, lead to innovation in new avenues of collecting. It will also serve to illustrate a process employed by some contemporary artists and to represent the practices of nationally and internationally known artists.
