Diabolique

Opening January 14, the exhibition Diabolique, curated by Amanda Cachia, features works by Canadian and international artists addressing issues related to the impact of violence, war and social conflicts in today's world. These works speak to anxieties, hopes, resistance, and power and authority relationships. The artists: Matilda Aslizadeh, Rebecca Belmore, Jake & Dinos Chapman, Dana Claxton, Douglas Coupland, Mario Doucette, David Garneau, William Kentridge, Fawad Khan, Wanda Koop, Shirin Neshat, Michael Patterson-Carver, Dan Perjovschi, Raymond Pettibon, Nancy Spero, Althea Thauberger, Jason Thiry, Scott Waters and Balint Zsako. The exhibition is produced by the Dunlop Art Gallery (Regina, Saskatchewan).

Exhibition
Diabolique cuts a map of blood, raising intense concerns about the impact of war and human conflict. The exhibition is an electric mix of social and political statements, and narratives that pose disturbing, puzzling, grotesque and surreal questions about human capacities for violence. The title of the exhibition is partially inspired by Les Diaboliques (1954), a black-and-white French classic terror film directed by Henri-Georges Clouzot. Artworks range from a charcoal drawing anamorphic animation to an exploding car bomb drawing, to a powerpoint slideshow of social criticism cartoons. These artworks challenge our positions and push buttons.
